About the position

Our Couplings business unit is a technology leader focused on supplying state-of-the-art products to the global commercial vehicle market. This segment has ambitious growth plans in the North American Market and is now seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support that growth.

 

The Product Engineer role will be responsible for the design and development of engineering solutions for pneumatic and fluids couplings, according to Customer and KA’s requirements by using automotive industry standard tools and processes. The Product Engineer will execute Engineering tasks within projects in order to meet schedule, budget, and specifications. It will be expected to work within a professional Project Team to deliver programs from concept to production. The position will report directly to the Programs and Engineering Manager, NA, Couplings with a dotted line to the Design Manager based out in Norway.

Responsibilities

The Role

  • Will be responsible for the completion of development engineering tasks as identified in Kongsberg Product Development Processes (KBD-NPI & PIP)
  • Supports the development of new products that support Kongsberg Automotive's Strategic Plan
  • Contributes to department and project performance according to valid routines, process and standards
  • Insures completion of design documents and properly files into appropriate project folders
  • Coordinates and managers the manufacturer of sample parts with the production plant, including procurement of Tier II manufactured components
  • Analyzes and interprets the customer requirements to determine feasibility of product proposal
  • Develops robust engineering solutions to defined enquiries, using a 'right first time' approach
  • Works directly with OEM and KA personnel, leads the generation and completion of Product Specifications (PS) & Product Requirement Documents (PRD) for new products & new applications, including the definition of product test plans and follow up of test results
  • Use of typical engineering development tools, including DFMEA, DFM/A, VA/VE techniques, DVP&R, SC&CC identification, etc to ensure robust product design
  • Performs engineering calculations and simulations as required in order to achieve robust product designs
  • Acquire understanding of systems, where Raufoss Couplings supply products
  • Actively works with standardization and optimization "best practice" in general, and responsible for this type of work within the design area (including 3D models, drawings, documentations, etc)
  • Work with Cross Functional Team, coordinate the completion of all engineering deliverables identified by the Project Manager/ Team required in order to complete the project to Cost, Quality & Delivery expectations
  • Keeps up to date on competitors and be a driver for benchmarking
  • Keeps up to date on claims and warranty cases
  • Works directly with Program Managers and Segment Directors to generate concept proposals to customer inquiries
  • Give technical support for production and PIP managers

Requirements

The ideal candidate must have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in Product Design Engineering
  • Good working knowledge of computer systems; MS Office, MS Projects, MRP
  • Skilled practitioner in CAD NX or equivalent 3D modeling software and PLM software
  • Ability to produce quality engineering drawings
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Plastic Injection Molded, die cast, and sheet metal part design experience
  • Reading & writing skills in English language
  • Knowledge in APQP process

 

Desirable:

  • Background in Automotive Engineering
  • Electromechanical & controls systems engineering experience
  • Degree in Mechanical / Electromechanical engineering
  • Experience in product simulation FEA & CFD is considered as high advantage
  • LEAN principles / Business Improvement Techniques
  • Prior mechanism assembly design experience
  • Foreign language knowledge or skills is an advantage
