  2. Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support Design to Cost optimizations for projects in early development or concept phase. Ensure optimized choice of technology, materials and manufacturing process. Consider KA suppliers manufacturing capabilities.
  • Support Project Purchasing and Sales with quick cost estimates in the Define and Quote phase – 1st offer to the customer (Job 1).
  • Support Project Purchasing with Cost Model targets for the supplier awarding process (SBA phase). Detailed analysis of CBDs from supplier vs. KA Cost Model breakdowns. Active support in the negotiations with the suppliers targeted for sourcing.
  • Facilitate cost calculation of Parts in Production to support meeting purchasing cost saving target (PPV savings) or mitigate price increase risks – PIRs and Cost Avoidance.
  • Evaluate commercial impact of engineering changes.  
  • Contribute to the Make or Buy decision making process, providing true cost analysis upon request from project management. This also includes in- or out-sourcing cases.
  • Propose and support VSM and VA/VE activities to optimize cost.
  • Identify saving opportunities on running parts and execute supplier negotiation, need to be agreed between cost specialist and category or project buyer case by case.
  • Manage and take lead for supplier negotiation in alignment with Category team.
  • Support the development/improvement of Cost Model calculation know-how and tools.
  • Work on establishing a standard process and standard input templates to support the cost model calculation analysis.
  • Perform and manage Cost reviews or Audits at suppliers and ensure implementation of findings. Attend R@R for key projects to verify assumptions made in the cost calculations and supplier CBDs.
  • Working to secure purchasing objectives and management targets for assigned categories.
  • Cost Model knowledge sharing - education of the purchasing community about cost drivers in the different categories. Knowledge sharing also with other KA functions (e.g. R&D, Sales etc.)
  • Keep up-to-date with market trends - raw material, technologies, labour rate development etc.

The cost estimator will be responsible for the following activities for assigned categories:

  • Identify saving opportunities on running parts and execute supplier negotiation, need to be agreed between cost estimator and category or project buyer case by case.
  • Perform cost breakdown analysis of supplier prices / quotes.
  • Calculate part cost in the calculation software tool TCPCM and compare to price quoted by supplier or to actual price in system.
  • Support the development of Cost Model Calculation know-how and tools for additional categories.
  • Increase the data library in the Siemens TPCM calculation software (machines master data, raw materials etc.).
  • Create a knowledge library reflecting the specific technological footprint of KAs supplier base.
  • Work on establishing a standard process and standard input templates to support the cost model calculation analysis.
  • Propose standard input on the components drawings to support the cost model calculation analysis for the specific categories.
  • Support the evaluation and the commercial impact of engineering changes.
  • Initiate changes in the manufacturing process or changes on the components (VAVE/VSM).
  • Perform and manage Cost reviews or Audits at suppliers and ensure implementation of findings. Attend R&R for key projects to verify assumptions made in the cost calculations and supplier CBDs.
  • Support R&D in early phase to secure design to cost.
  • Budget responsibility. Working to secure purchasing objectives and management targets
  • Cost Model Knowledge Sharing - Education of the purchasing community about cost drivers in the different categories. Knowledge sharing also with other KA functions (e.g. R&D, Sales etc.)

    • Follow dynamic technological, manufacturing, market and raw material development trends.
    • Develop Cost Estimating capabilities not only for single purchased components but also for more complex assemblies with an increasing electronics share.

  • Communication on a daily base with all purchasing functions (category, product and project purchasing and SQD) but also regular interface with R&D, Sales, Manufacturing, IT, Finance and Logistics.
  1. Competence Profile (ideal)
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering course.
  • 5+ years working experience, within the automotive industry purchasing(or SQD) function,
  • Nice to have 3+ years' proven experience focus on electronics (PCBA, Motor, Fan, will be priority)  Still familiar more is better. Good high potential metal and plastic parts will also be consider.
  • Fluent English language skills, both written and verbal, (reference CET6 or Master degree)
  • Demonstrate market knowledge and awareness of current and upcoming technological, manufacturing, market and electronics development trends
