About the position
Kongsberg Automotive’s Powertrain and Chassis (P&C) Division is part of the Kongsberg Automotive Group. We have an immediate opening for a Tooling Engineer, possessing Plastic Injection Molding experience. Qualified candidates must have experience performing analytical validation of Injection Tool Concepts through simulation tools. You will be an important player in a team that will develop our products from concept to design release and production implementation. Our mechatronic systems are complex in nature and include the following types of components: plastic, metal, diecast, motors, gears, solenoids, cables, wire harnesses, PCBs, LED lighting, hall effect sensor, micro switches, and Class-A components (paint, chrome, MIC, IMD, boots synthetic and natural).
Responsibilities
- The Tooling Engineer will design plastic injection molding tool concepts, perform tool DFM analysis, provide DFM guidance to product design engineers and collaborate with tool shops during tool design/construction/validation.
- Accountable for the development and release of Plastic Injection Tool concepts and APQP documentation.
- Responsible for the performing the initial analytical simulation/validation of Injection Tool concepts through simulation tools and the final tool designs from tooling suppliers. Including Mold Flow, Warp Analysis, etc.
- Responsible for the creation and maintenance of P&C Americas Injection Molding Tool Design Standards.
- Collaborate with CAD Designers and Product Engineers to optimize the design of Plastic Molded Components.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Plant Personnel (Molding Manager, Tooling Manager, Quality, etc.) on all activities related to Tooling Procurement, Validation and Set-up.
- Work diligently to maintain program timing, budgetary objectives and customer satisfaction.
- Lead tooling technical meetings and design reviews with tooling suppliers.
- Support purchasing activities related to the sourcing of injection molding tools.
Requirements
Education and Technical Experience/Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Software, or Mechanical Engineering is required. Three (3) Years of Mold Flow experience is required.
- (10) years work experience, in complex product development that involves mechanics, software and electronics.
- Experience with product development life cycle (systems, software and hardware), as per ISO 26262 process, Automotive SPICE and quality management.
- Knowledge of functional safety implementation for automotive systems
- Experience with analysis tools & methods such as FMEA, FMEDA, and FTA
- Experience in writing detailed specifications, design and development of complex safety critical features.
- Capable of reviewing test plan procedures to ensure that features are thoroughly tested.
- Qualified candidates must demonstrate an ability to work well within a global team.
