Systems Engineer

About the position

Kongsberg Automotive’s Powertrain and Chassis (P&C) Division is part of the Kongsberg Automotive Group. We have an immediate opening for a Systems Engineer. The product development team within Kongsberg Automotive is subject to global competition, with high demands on our performance.

Responsibilities

The systems engineer is part of a global team working on the development of electronics and mechanics for embedded automotive systems such as actuators and power electronics systems designed for all major power sports, car and truck brands. They have an important role in development projects, working closely with engineers of various disciplines (e.g. electronics, software and mechanics). They  analyze and break down customer requirements and are responsible for creating an optimal system by understanding the customer's needs. This position involves close collaboration with colleagues, customers and suppliers worldwide. A broad knowledge of electronics, software and mechanics will enable the Engineer to work with the design team to perform safety analysis or mentor and guide the team in carrying out safety analysis for systems, software and hardware, according to ISO 26262.

 

The incumbent approves reports of test execution, participates in product proposals and may be requested to support program management activities.  Experience will enable them to act as a coach to team members.  Tasks include:

  • Acting as a technical contact between the customer and the technical team

  • Analyzing customer requirements and help the customer in establishing realistic and measurable requirements down to project level 

  • Breaking down of system requirements for all sub systems

  • Ensuring projects and products meet customer requirements/expectations

  • Issuing proper documentation.  

  • Performing functional safety management activities for automotive safety systems, according to relevant standards during all project phases (concept, product development, production)

  • Complying to and performing audits according to ISO 26262 functional safety standards

  • Developing safety architecture and design for safety critical automotive platforms/products

  • Performing gap analysis 

  • Supporting the communication of product safety requirements to various disciplines (e.g. software, hardware, mechanical)

  • Working with customer focus team to promote and sell Kongsberg products and technologies

  • In a spirit of global collaboration, working with customer and internal teams on functional safety matters

  • Evaluating safety-related design changes; collaborate with various teams to maintain consistency in product development

Requirements

 

Skills and knowledge:

  • Excellent people skills and team spirit

  • Excellent customer interaction and communication skills

  • Analytical and data driven. 

  • Proficient with requirement management tools

  • Experience with product development life cycle (systems, software and hardware), as per ISO 26262 process. Automotive SPICE and quality management.

  • Knowledge of functional safety implementation for automotive systems

  • Experience with analysis tools & methods such as FMEA, FMEDA, and FTA

  • Experience in writing detailed specifications, design and development of complex safety critical features.

  • Capable of reviewing test plan procedures to ensure that features are thoroughly tested.

Education and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Software, or Mechanical Engineering

  • 10 years work experience, in complex product development that involves mechanics, software and electronics.
