Applications Engineer

About the position

The position of Application Engineer is a crucial role focusing on the design and introduction of new parts within our fluid transfer division creating cost-competitive and innovative designs for the latest Passenger car models in the market.  As the technical link to our customer you will ensure that both customer specific requirements and Kongsberg standards are met, designs are robust for manufacturing, and support the generation of profitable sales.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, design, specify and standardise the building blocks/products based on the application specification from customers and manufacturing requirements (both customer and internal) respectively
  • Conduct this work and approvals through the New Product Introduction (NPI) process
  • Solve engineering problems for the customer by developing open dialogue and strong working relationships
  • Perform design feasibility checks on customer drawings and specifications in RFQ phase
  • Develop D-FMEAs, DVP and PVPs
  • Use a VAVE approach to reduce waste on existing products.
  • Coordinate the prototype build with the KA prototype engineers
  • Develop and establish layout and packaging models, CAD drawings for prototypes and serial production and continuously through the development process to perform tolerance- and CAE studies.
  • Support releasing the engineering BOM/part list and releasing of product drawings in accordance with ECN’s  
Requirements

Education:

  • MSc in mechanical engineering (or equivalent) with a minimum of 2-3 years’ experience of a design or engineering role in the automotive industry

Practical experience and skills:

  • Knowledge about systems for brake, fuel, oil, coolant, e-power and air in powertrain and/or chassis, preferably the piping, tube and connector elements
  • Experience with the following materials: rubber, thermoplastic and steel 
  • Preferably CAD skills such as CATIA 5 + SAP PLM.
  • Ability to think clearly and react effectively under pressure while remaining focused on key objectives and strategies
  • Collaboration – ability to work in multi-functional teams within a matrix organisation and communicate effectively oat all levels
  • Analytical and data driven solution-oriented work style

Special requirements:

  • The role will require regular presence on the customer sites in the UK & Europe, further presence in our UK, Spain and Poland production facilities.
