Controls Engineer

About the position

Kongsberg Automotive's Off-Highway business segment is a leading supplier of mechatronic assemblies, pedals, shifters, cables, and actuators for the agricultural, construction, and Powersports markets. We are looking for a Controls Engineer to support our Willis Operations. The Controls Engineer will design, implement, and maintain control systems to optimize the performance of production processes. It will apply control theory to ensure systems operate predictably and efficiently, often in industries such as manufacturing. This involves developing algorithms, utilizing tools such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, and collaborating with other engineers. 

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop control systems for industrial automation projects, including PLC, HMI, and SCADA.
  • Integrate vision-guided robotics and motion control systems.
  • Perform troubleshooting and maintenance of equipment related to electrical design or programming.
  • Analyze system requirements and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Conduct testing and validation of engineering solutions to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and implement industrial engineering solutions.
  • Program and troubleshoot control systems, PLCs, and automation software.
  • Manage project scopes, budgets, and schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with project methodologies and deliverables.
  • Document processes, specifications, and procedures related to engineering projects.
  • Address customer needs through effective problem-solving and technical solutions.
  • Prepare proposal estimates and provide input for the launch and production phases
  • Innovation and Support:
  • Stay updated on the latest technology trends and contribute ideas for new products

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in controls engineering, automation, or electrical engineering.
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and their application in control systems.
  • Familiarity with standards such as NEC, UL, NFPA, IEEE, CSA, and CE.
  • Proficiency in PLC and HMI programming, particularly with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley or Siemens products.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and creatively in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong organizational capabilities.
  • A customer-focused mindset.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes
