About the position

Our Couplings business unit is a technology leader focused on supplying state-of-the-art products to the global commercial vehicle market. This segment has ambitious growth plans in the North American Market and is now seeking a System Engineer to support that growth.

The System Engineer's primary area of responsibilities are the evaluation and proposal of automotive system solutions for North American automotive market. The key systems under focus are pneumatic Braking and suspension system and cooling system.

The role will identify customer development Road maps and propose solutions for KA global product development plan. The incumbent is expected to become a system expert to give valuable support for Customers by providing technical proposals, organizing technical workshop, answering technical request / quotations and making system trial installation on vehicles. This position is globally responsible to identify and share inside KA, the North American market & regulations requirements. The System Engineer is a key team player in a highly motivated team and will report directly to the Programs and Engineering Manager for Coupling in NA.


The Role:

  • Technical support to Customers (may require travel)
  • Technical support to local & Global Program Managers, sales
  • Identify & evaluate system and components opportunities at the customer
  • Create and propose products & systems solutions to Customers
  • Execute trial installation on customer vehicles of KA Products and Systems proposals
  • Lead development and validation of Vehicle/System Design Specifications incorporating company, industry, and regulatory standards, test procedures, and material specifications
  • Organize Technical workshops with Customer R&D teams to show future Systems & Products
  • Searching and selecting growth opportunities, products in system ideas, and being informed by customer strategies, new vehicles & systems developments plans and contents
  • Support KA R&D and Programs with overview about Customer needs and requirements for future product developments
  • Provide technical gap road map by conducting competition evaluation and benchmarking
  • Completion of development system/application engineering tasks as identified in Kongsberg Product Development processes
  • Support the development of new products according to Kongsberg Automotive's Strategic Plan
  • Contribute to department and project performance according to valid routines, process, and standards
  • Co-ordinate and manage samples manufacturing within production plants, including procurement of Tier II manufactured components
  • Organize, prepare presentations and conduct technical meetings with customers
  • Provide internal technical trainings
  • Knowledge to support financial business case and definition of target cost


The ideal candidate must have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Product Design Engineering and or in Product validation testing and or System engineering
  • Background in Automotive Engineering and Experience on Commercial vehicle systems
  • Good working knowledge of computer systems; MS Office, MS Projects, MRP
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Reading & writing skills in English language
  • Knowledge in APQP process



  • Electromechanical & control systems engineering experience
  • Basic understanding about vehicle dynamics
  • Basic experience in Couplings
  • Knowledge in CAD NX or equivalent 3D modeling software and PLM software
  • Ability to produce engineering basic drawings
  • LEAN principles/Business Improvement Techniques
  • Prior mechanism assembly design experience
  • Foreign language knowledge or skills is an advantage
