Product Engineer - Mechatronics

About the position

Kongsberg Automotive's P&C Division is looking for Product Engineer located in Novi, USA to design and engineer our mechatronic shifter and cable systems. You will be an important player in a team that will develop our products from concept to design release and production implementation.  Our mechatronic systems are complex in nature and include the following types of components: plastic, metal, diecast, motors, gears, solenoids, cables, wire harnesses, PCBs, LED lighting, hall effect sensor, micro switches, and Class-A components (paint, chrome, MIC, IMD, boots synthetic and natural).

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development, release and maintenance of performance requirements, CAD, drawings, BOM, design and APQP documentation.  
  • Performs tolerance analysis (limit & RSS stacks) to ensure product fit and function. 3DCS software experience beneficial.
  • Leads the analytical design simulation/validation of component and assemblies with CAE team. Including FEA, Kinematic, Lighting, Mold Flow, Thermal and Vibration analysis.
  • Responsible for the creation and maintenance of the product DFMEA amd specifications.
  • Collaborates with CAD designers to ensure the integrity of CAD and Drawings.
  • Ensure products meet design goals and objectives as define by customer specifications, internal specifications and government regulations.
  • Works diligently to maintain program timing, budgetary objectives and customer satisfaction.
  • Leads product technical meetings and design reviews with customers and internal teams.
  • Implements systematic problem-solving strategies and tools to root cause problems in all cycles of product development and productionization.
  • Collaborates with the electrical engineering teams to ensure the product meets system level performance requirements.
  • Establish working relationship with customers, suppliers, production facility staff and cross functional team members.
  • Assures that DFA/DFM & VAVE meetings are scheduled and designs are adapted to improve manufacturing, product reliability and/or cost.
  • Support the review of Customer SOR’s and Technical Specifications received during the new business RFQ process and provide input regarding the design and product to be offered.
  • Conceives and develops new products to increase Kongsberg competitiveness.

Requirements

 

Educational and technical requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering 
  • More than five years of experience designing electro-mechanical systems (Automotive experience preferred)
  • Understands the development process for automotive mechatronics products and has program experience designing and releasing such components and systems.
  • Experienced in CAD design software is desirable.
  • Advanced proficiency in applying and interpreting GD&T.
  • Knowledgeable in manufacturing and assembly processes (e.g. plastic injection molding, insert molding, machining, die casting, stamping, fasteners, heat stake) and the associated design DFA/DFM practices.
